Finding The Right Safe

When it comes to keeping your house safe and secure, there are a lot of different factors that you need to keep in mind. You simultaneously want to be able to ward off any potential burglars, create a security system that can withstand a determined thief, ensure that the authorities will be notified of any dangerous situations, and mitigate risks within the home as well, including fires. Don't Be an Appealing Target

The first step in foiling a burglary is to not be an appealing target in the first place. If you don't look like any easy target, then most thieves won't even make an attempt.

In order to do this, you want to make an exterior that appears extremely difficult to infiltrate. There are a number of ways that you can do this, including

• Move hedges away from the exterior of your home. By adding a few yards between tall plants and your home, you can make it seem much harder for a thief to sneak around your yard.

• Add obvious cameras and lights. Even if the cameras don't work, you want to make it seem like the criminal will be spotted before they even get to the door. Motion-activated lights are a great resource, since they will force the perpetrator to make a knee-jerk reaction. When you shine a bright light on a potential thief, they are almost always going to run, especially if that light appears before they even get to the door.

Quality Over Quantity When It Comes to Locks

When setting up locks for your home, you might be inclined to go overboard. After all, the more locks that you add, the harder it will be for an intruder to break in, right?

While that is true, it can also be a double-edged sword. By adding a ton of locks, you are effectively making it harder to leave your home, in addition to making it harder to get in. You might need several keys to actually get in, and it might take a while just to undo every lock from the interior as well. This can be a deadly few seconds if there is a fire or other threat in your home, so you want to be able to escape as quickly as possible.

For that reason, you want to use few locks, making sure that each is highly effective. Don't reuse keys for multiple locks, and ensure that you have some deadbolts around your home in order to prevent any brute force attempts.

With these ideas in mind, you can create a security system that will prevent your home from ever being a target. On top of that, it will also be easy to exit in the event of a fire or other crisis inside your home.
