There is no question that accidentally locking your keys in your car is frustrating, but when you manage to do this in the middle of the night or while you are parked in a sketchy place, the experience can be downright dangerous. Even though the auto locksmith will do what they can to make it to you and your locked vehicle as quickly as possible, there are a few dos and don'ts that you should keep in mind to help you stay safe while you wait.

Do stay in an area that is well lit while you wait.

One of the biggest rules of staying safe anytime you are in a vulnerable situation is to stay visible. Go ahead and make your way to any place in the area that is well lit, whether it is a gas station, storefront, or just a street lamp.

Don't feel obligated to wait by your car.

Once you have called a locksmith like those at Autolock Solutions, there is no reason for you to have to wait by your car where people will spot that you are locked out. Just make sure you let the locksmith know where you will be waiting or how to get in touch with you when they arrive.

Do keep yourself looking busy until the locksmith arrives.

Just standing around and leaning on your car hood while you wait just makes you look like a sitting duck to a predator. Keep yourself busy while you wait if there is nowhere to go, and people will be much less likely to approach you. Pull out your phone, read a book, or even call up a friend and have them keep you on the line until help gets to you.

Don't trust anyone to help you out.

Do-gooders may come by and claim they can help you unlock your car, but don't be too quick to trust people who seem to be willing to help. Just kindly let them know that you already have help on the way that should be arriving at any second.

Do call up someone to wait with you if you can.

If there is someone available and you do not want to leave your car, call up a friend or family member and have them wait with you. You will look much less vulnerable if you have a friend along with you to keep you company, and besides, having company will make you feel much more comfortable.
